BEFORE YOU SET SAIL

Questions before you go

Trips to mainland China for repairs cannot currently be arranged under the leisure travel scheme described on this page. For a repair visit, choose the appropriate service:

  • Zhuhai Jinwan yacht repairs: a deposit waiver may apply under the relevant arrangements. VOY coordinates the documents, voyage and yard.
  • Repairs in other mainland cities: transport by tug with a customs deposit may be an option, involving a substantial deposit and more complex customs formalities. VOY can help assess and arrange this. Please ask about repair transport to other cities.
  • Macau yacht repairs: VOY can also arrange an assessment based on your yacht’s condition and the work required.

Start with the yacht model, overall length, maximum beam, draught, air draught, ownership, skipper’s qualifications, dates and destinations. Ownership, licensing, survey and insurance documents, together with personal travel documents, can follow once the proposed arrangements are confirmed.

The certificate is valid for up to one year and permits multiple mainland visits, with port formalities required for every trip. Each continuous stay and the annual cumulative stay must not exceed 180 days, within the certificate’s validity. A return to Hong Kong does not reset the annual total.

The skipper must also meet the scheme’s identity and travel-document requirements and complete the mainland training, assessment and registration. The limits of the Hong Kong qualification, including permitted vessel length, must cover the yacht being operated.

We first check the equipment, identification details, licensing and operation, then address any gaps. There is no need to assume that all equipment must be replaced before this assessment.

You must proceed directly to a designated entry port for inspection before stopping at another mainland marina or terminal. See the six designated ports. Clearance berths and overnight berthing are arranged separately.

An itinerary may include several destinations within the nine cities, subject to the applicable rules. Arrival and departure reporting still applies, and routes, berths and local reception arrangements must be confirmed for each stop.

Each passenger’s visa, entry permission and manifest requirements depend on their nationality and travel documents. Passenger entry requirements are assessed separately from the scheme’s requirements for skippers.

Please provide overall length, maximum beam, monohull or catamaran, draught, dates, number of nights and requirements such as shore power. VOY will approach marinas with these details and obtain written quotes for comparison.

Notify VOY, the managing yacht club and the relevant authorities first, so port bookings, berths and required declarations can be updated. Rescheduling and charges depend on the confirmed arrangements and quotation terms.
