CHARTER / CLASS IV

Charter yacht surveys and endorsement support

Planning to charter your yacht for the first time, or approaching the expiry of an existing charter vessel’s Certificate of Survey? VOY helps the owner check the vessel’s intended use and documents, then coordinates the appropriate survey professional, equipment preparation, inspection and follow-up. This service is for Class IV yachts intended to be chartered for reward in Hong Kong.

Three checks before chartering

  1. 01

    Vessel and use

Certificate of Ownership, Operating Licence, permitted passenger capacity, proposed charter arrangement and whether a charter endorsement is already in place.

  2. 02

    Survey and equipment

Current Certificate of Survey, previous inspection records, onboard safety equipment and recent changes. The qualified survey professional engaged confirms the scope of this survey.

  3. 03

    Operating documents

Applicable insurance and a written charter agreement must be checked alongside the charter arrangement. A condition report or completed maintenance alone does not establish that the vessel may be chartered.

For relevant charter vessels carrying no more than 60 passengers, a qualified surveyor determines the Certificate of Survey validity period according to use and condition, up to a maximum of 12 months. The actual date for each vessel is governed by its certificate and applicable requirements.

What VOY can coordinate

We can organise vessel documents and a list of missing items, confirm pre-survey preparations and dates with the survey professional, and liaise with the boatyard, equipment suppliers and people on site. If the survey identifies deficiencies, we can coordinate quotations, rectification records and a further inspection in line with the professional’s formal requirements. We can also prepare charter endorsement application documents within the agreed scope. Survey decisions and certificates are handled by people or bodies with the relevant authority; the competent authority decides endorsement and licensing under the applicable process.

Agreed deliverables may include: a document and action list, confirmed survey and boatyard arrangements, a deficiency follow-up record and the agreed document handover list. The quotation will state whether site attendance, equipment procurement, application handling and repeat inspections are included.

What to send us first

Please provide the yacht type and main dimensions, permitted passenger capacity, current licence and charter endorsement status, Certificate of Survey expiry date, most recent survey or haul-out date, location and intended charter start date. You need not submit identity documents, insurance policies or ownership papers through the website for an initial enquiry; we can agree a channel for these later if required.

Fees and common questions

Fees depend on this survey, the state of the documents and equipment, and whether haul-out or testing is needed. The quotation will separate VOY coordination, professional survey, government, boatyard, equipment, works and repeat-inspection costs. The owner will approve any additional works first.

YOUR QUESTIONS

Frequently asked questions

Check that the certificate is valid and applies to this vessel and use, and confirm the charter endorsement on the Operating Licence, applicable insurance and written charter agreement. A certificate alone is not enough to decide.

No. VOY can coordinate agreed rectification work, but the professional engaged decides whether the vessel meets the requirements within their authority.
