PERIODIC / CONDITION

Periodic yacht surveys, annual condition checks and haul-outs

Certificate dates, boatyard slots and repair work often need to be planned together. VOY reviews the vessel’s certificates and past surveys, then coordinates the applicable inspection, yard preparation and deficiency follow-up. Owners of private yachts without a statutory periodic survey requirement may separately commission a voluntary condition check; we explain the purpose and deliverables of each service.

01 / SERVICE DETAIL

Define the work required this time

We review the vessel’s use, existing certificates, dates of its last afloat and haul-out inspections, recent changes and outstanding deficiencies. The appropriate professional then confirms whether a statutory survey, haul-out or specific test is required. The Code of Practice provides for annual afloat and biennial haul-out inspections for relevant charter vessels; that does not mean every private yacht requires an annual statutory survey.

If an owner simply wants a condition assessment, we can agree a voluntary scope covering accessible hull, machinery, electrical systems and safety equipment. Sea trials, lifting, dismantling, oil analysis and other diagnostics must be agreed in advance. Maintenance, cleaning and repair are separate work; a condition check does not replace statutory certification.

02 / SERVICE DETAIL

From scheduling to reinspection

  1. 01

    Review

Collect certificates, expiry dates and prior survey and maintenance records; list what needs confirming for this visit.

  2. 02

    Arrange

Liaise with the survey professional, yard, captain and suppliers; confirm downtime, haul-out or dry-dock arrangements and access to areas to be inspected.

  3. 03

    Follow up

Record deficiencies from the formal inspection for the owner to choose a rectification plan and approve quotations; follow works records and any required reinspection.

  4. 04

    Handover

Provide the survey or condition report within the agreed scope, deficiency status and any agreed expiry-date reminder arrangements. Ongoing reminders must be expressly included in the engagement.

VOY coordinates the work entrusted to it. We do not replace the survey professional in statutory inspection, compliance decisions or certificate issue.

03 / SERVICE DETAIL

What to provide and how fees work

Please provide the yacht type, dimensions and use; certificate type and expiry date; last haul-out date; current location; and available downtime. Mention known faults or recent alterations. VOY coordination, professional survey or condition check, lifting or yard time, cleaning, dismantling, tests, works and repeat inspections will be quoted separately. We will also say whether yard space and a sea trial are included.

Not necessarily. A non-charter Class IV vessel outside the specified large or special categories may not require statutory survey. We first check this vessel’s use and particulars.
